Occasion: South Ribble Scouts take part in their St George s Day Parade through the streets of Leyland. Above right, South Ribble Mayor Colin Clark leads the fun from St Mary s Church Members of scout, cubs and beaver groups took part in parades through the town centres of both Leyland and Chorley.
In Leyland, a church service was held at St Mary’s Church before the procession passed through the town centre to the gates of Worden Park.
Led by a drumming band and the Mayor of South Ribble Colin Clark, they paraded from the church on Broadfield Drive along Lancastergate around to Fox Lane before finishing at the park. Leyland resident Alison Harvey, 45, whose son Joshua was in the parade, was part of the crowd on Lancastergate.
She said: “Both my sons have been in the parade down the years and I have been here every year, come rain or shine.
“It is a tradition which has been taking place for such a long time, I think it is important we do it.”
Barry Gardner, 71, of Lostock Hall, came to see his grandson Alex Hargreaves. He said: “When I was a boy scout the St George’s Day parade had thousands of boys in it and all their parents and grandparents would come out to watch. It is obviously a lot smaller these days, but it is good that we are still doing it.”
In Chorley, scouts from across the borough also took part with hundreds of youngsters involved in a parade through the town centre.
